A Lady in Swiss Costume

A Lady in Swiss Costume

£550

Being largely homebound, Hunt would find inventive ways to vary his figure subjects, putting his models in national costume and setting them against a foreign landscape or interior, being one method. Here, a woman in Swiss costume is sitting before a distant mountain panorama. Other examples are A Circassian Lady (sold Sotheby's 23rd November 2006, lot 260), A Woman of Flanders (sold Cheffin's 12th September 2018, lot 108) and A Girl in Folk Dance Costume (also on this website).
