Very Hot
Very Hot
1071
Here we see a boy sitting on a stool, wearing a blue tam o'shanter (a prop used by Hunt in a number of watercolours), trying to eat very hot porridge. As often with his popular story-led subjects, Hunt made more than one version of this subject, and two others have been recorded, selling at auction in 1986 and 2001. One of these is dated 1831. One of the three was likely the watercolour sold as lot 259 at Hunt's studio sale at Christie's on 17th May 1864.
