Walberswick, from Harbour to Blackshore
Walberswick, from Harbour to Blackshore
1143
Squirrell’s preparatory pencil sketches for etchings and watercolours, made on the spot in front of his subjects, often with colour notes, are some of his freshest, most direct works. There is a certificate of authenticity from the artist's daughter on the backboard of the present work. The River Blyth runs through the Southwold Harbour, separating Southwold and Walberswick. This drawing was made on the Walberswick side of the river, presumably at the same time as Squirrell made the study of the Ferry, also listed on this website.
