Walberswick Ferry

Walberswick Ferry

£450

The River Blyth runs through the Southwold Harbour, separating Southwold and Walberswick. This drawing was made on the Southwold side of the river, presumably at the same time as Squirrell made the study of the fishing huts on the Walberswick side, also listed on this website. This was presumably a study for a watercolour of the Walberswick Ferry, which still functions as a rowed passenger service. The steam ferry drawn here by Squirrell, which carried vehicles, was taken out of service in 1942.
