Landscape with Windmill and Anvil Cloud

Landscape with Windmill and Anvil Cloud

£950

Arnesby Brown's oil paintings are seen more commonly, but he also painted watercolours, which are rare on the market. This is a striking view of cumulus clouds over an archetypal Broadland landscape of an old tower mill, low brick and tile buildings and a boat drawn up on the bank. The squat mill building resembles the one at Blakeny, North Norfolk, but that is on a rise in the land and an unlikely candidate. The inscription would appear to read "Little Mousehold Heath", but the mill on Mousehold Heath in Norwich is quite unlike this one. Perhaps it is the name of the boat, but in summary, the title and location are a bit of a mystery.
