Distant view of a building in a country park

£475

Harding made something of a specialism of distant views of country houses and other buildings seen in the distance across parkland, such as his views of Windsor Castle. This appears to be a parkland view with two towers glimpsed among distant trees, suggestive of a building like Penshurst Place, Syon House or Fountains Abbey. In the shaded foreground, and perhaps also highlighted in white in distant sunlit pastures, is what might be a gypsy tent. Although much smaller, this drawing shares some of the characteristics and high quality of the majestic drawing of Twickenham in the Tate collection.
