This appealing amateur drawing shows a mother in a late 18th or early 19th century century mobcap, or bonnet, with her baby on her knee and reading a book or journal, while her husband looks on, and the dog lies asleep at her feet. It is a little unclear whether the title is intended to be literal or ironic.
