In Kensington Gardens, May 1947

£300

The present work is a freshly painted snapshot of a Spring day in post-war London, with demobilised servicemen, families and dogs enjoying a stroll in the park. Kensington Gardens is characterised by its largely flat terrain and wide open aspects, with criss-crossing paths. A Spring walk in the Gardens today fees very much like this scene caught by Malet.

Malet was a student at the highly influential Grosvenor School, in Warwick Square, and the light palettes and dynamic design sense which are so highly prized among some of the School's alumni, are refelected in this appealing watercolour.
