The influence of French art, as well as the Scottish Colourists, is apparent in Taylor's work from this time onwards, and the present work echoes the work of artists such as Paul Cézanne, Pierre Bonnard and Maurice Denis. Intimate works in pastel and watercolour of views of corners of nature and buildings, like this, loosely rendered in strong colours, are signature works.
