Crane, from a Medieval Wall Painting
Crane, from a Medieval Wall Painting
This is one of the very few artworks from Continental Europe listed on this website.
The verso of the present work is inscribed in French: "A M.D.Rice, Cordiallement de Zdenka et Br. Živković", and with the stamp of the Institute for the Protection and Scientific Study of Cultural Monuments of the People's Republic of Serbia, Belgrade. This institute was responsible for documenting, preserving and overseeing cultural heritage in Serbia during the time it was a republic within Yugoslavia. The reference to "NR Srbije" (Narodna Republika Srbija) dates it specifically to 1945-63, before the republic was renamed the Socialist Republic of Serbia.. The stamp means the artwork was handled, studied or catalogued by the state heritage institute.
