Eileen Cooper R.A

1953

Eileen Cooper is one of Britian's most popular contemporary artists, known in particular for her paintings and prints with a strong autobiographical element, portrayed allegorically, rather than anecdotally. Born in Glossop, Derbyshire, Cooper trained at Goldsmith's College in 1971-74, followed by study at the Royal College of Art from 1974-77. She later taught at many of Britain's leading art schools and was elected a Royal Academician in 2001 and Keeper of the Academy from 2010 to 2017. In 2017 she co-ordinated the Summer Exhibition. Eileen Cooper's work is held in major museum collections around the world. Martin Gayford's monograph on the artist was published in 2015.
